About Us

Welcome to the website for the NIWA Canterbury-Westland Schools Science and Technology Fair. This page gives some background to this event. Other relevant information can be accessed from the menu above.

For the most up-to-date details on the next Fair, see the Key Dates and Schedule pages.

The Canterbury-Westland Schools Science and Technology Fair regularly attracts up to 400 entries from Intermediate Schools, Secondary Schools and Home Schools throughout the region.  The Fair has been held in Christchurch for over 30 years and throughout this time has grown considerably in size and reputation to become one of the premier Science and Technology Events in New Zealand.

The fair is organised by an independent committee consisting of:

  • Members of Christchurch Kiwanis Clubs,
  • Members of the Canterbury Science Teachers Association,
  • Representatives from Ara, Lincoln University, University of Canterbury, Environment Canterbury and other interested people.

We are very proud to be supported by a wide and ever increasing range of sponsors; and we are very fortunate to be able to draw on the experience of over 100 well qualified judges from Research Organisations, Industry and the Education Sector who willingly give up their time to encourage the exhibitors to follow their interest in science and technology.
