Prizes

The prizes stated are for the 2014 Fair and are to give an indication only of the prizes which may be offered. The prize list will be updated for 2016 when the information is available, so please check back. The Canterbury-Westland Schools Science and Technology Fair Organising Committee reserve the right to use prize winner information for publicity purposes.

 

Best in Fair Award

1st Prize – sponsored by NIWA

  • $1000
  • The winning entry may be nominated for entry to the ‘Powering Potential’ providing they qualify (Year 12 or 13 students only).

 

2nd Prize – sponsored by Kiwanis Clubs of Christchurch

  • $500

 

3rd Prize – sponsored by the Canterbury Science Teachers’ Association

  • $300

 

Prestige prizes

Environment Canterbury
Junior and senior prizes will be awarded of $400 for the student and $500 for their school. The senior student(s) will also get access to work experience arranged by Environment Canterbury.

University of Otago (in association with Canon NZ)
Hands On Science
Canon NZ will now fund the Hands-On Science registration costs for the winning student in each region, and will award the winning student a Canon compact camera. The University of Otago will continue to cover the cost of travel for the student to get to Hands-On Science. The prize will  be awarded for the Best Application of Scientific Method and will include an all-expenses paid place at the Hands-On Science camp in January 2016.
Hands-On Science is restricted to students entering Year 12 or 13, so any prize winners need to be in Year 11 or 12 when they win, OR their attendance at Hands-On Science will be deferred until they are about to enter Year 12 or 13.

Callaghan Innovation
Callaghan Innovation will offer a prize pool of $1000 for the best exhibits with commercial potential.
